Job summary

Cloudflare seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to shape the Linux-based edge appliance runtime and distributed control plane that connect customer sites to Cloudflare. You will work across low-level systems, distributed services, and API design, providing technical leadership for major initiatives.

This hands-on role requires strong judgment to balance local vs cloud capabilities, and a track record of owning complex production outcomes.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating complex production systems.
Strong software engineering skills in Rust, Go, TypeScript or similar, with ability to work across the stack.
Strong Linux systems and networking knowledge including routing, TCP/IP, namespaces, and security tech such as IPsec/WireGuard/MASQUE.

Responsibilities

Design and implement capabilities spanning cloud control plane, Linux appliance runtime, telemetry pipeline, and deployment environments.
Develop and harden the appliance dataplane with secure networking capabilities.
Build distributed control-plane and state-management systems for large fleets with safe rollouts.
Improve hardware-backed identity, attestation, secure boot, and immutable OS images.
Design telemetry, diagnostics, and remote operations to aid customers and support teams.
Align technical direction with customer feedback and product needs.
Prototype quickly, ship safely, and own rollout and incident follow-up.
Lead across teams with architectural direction and executable plans.
