Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for the Cloudflare Tunnel team in Austin, TX. You will drive the technical vision, architect scalable systems, and ensure secure connections for machines to the Cloudflare network.

You will lead design across edge networks, microservice clusters, and participate in capacity planning, feature development, and cross-functional collaboration with security, network engineering, and product management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in backend software development for distributed systems.
• Strong programming in Go, Rust, or C++.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux development and runtime environments.
• Understanding of OSI Layers 3-7 networking and network programming.
• Experience with microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and implementation of complex software systems comprising Cloudflare Tunnel and edge services.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle from design to deployment.
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management to design and scale solutions.
• Review work to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
• Mentor teammates and set engineering standards across the team.
• Debug complex distributed system issues and improve operational health.
• Drive long-term technical roadmap and system-wide improvements.
• Work with Go, Rust, TypeScript and various databases (SQL/No-SQL).
