Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to lead sensor systems design for multi-modality sensing across autonomous driving programs in Sunnyvale, CA. You will drive system architecture decisions, trade studies, and performance modeling while coordinating with AI/ML, simulation, and vehicle integration teams.

You will develop specifications for sensors (camera, radar, lidar), apply signal processing methods, and document trade-offs to align with product intent and production

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, or related field.
• 10+ years of sensor-related experience with leadership in cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience building multi-modality sensing systems (camera, radar, lidar).
• Strong knowledge of signal processing, link analysis, or ML across sensing modalities.
• Ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces and align teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead system-level trade studies for multi-modality sensor design.
• Model performance and assess AV behavioral impacts.
• Define detailed sensor performance specs and calibration.
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception teams.
• Document decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables.
