Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer for the AV team to lead sensor suite architecture across GM’s autonomy programs. You will drive system-level trade studies, define multi-modality sensor suites, and work with AI/ML, simulation, data collection, platform software, and vehicle integration teams to address complex challenges.

You will guide cross-functional collaboration, document decisions, and help ensure production-ready sensing solutions aligned with product intent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science.
• 10+ years of sensor-related experience with a BS.
• Demonstrated leadership executing cross-functional initiatives across system architecture, data collection, analysis, integration.
• Experience developing multi-modality sensing systems (camera, radar, lidar).
• Technical depth in signal processing, ML, or related sensing modalities.
• Understanding of self-driving challenges and sensor needs.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous spaces and align teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication; data analysis proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead system level trade studies for multi-modality sensor designs with performance modeling.
• Develop detailed performance specifications for sensors considering physics and signal processing.
• Assess performance against product needs, quantify risk, and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception, localization, and validation teams to manage interdependencies.
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables.
