Senior Systems Administrator – VMware, Security & Backups

Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned IT systems administrator to lead OS installation, configuration, and support across VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems in a demanding multi-platform data center.

You will drive change management, manage on-call support, coordinate vendor repairs, and lead security hardening and backup strategies while ensuring compliance and robust incident response capabilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust (Tier 4).
• Extensive experience in a multi-platform computer center environment.
• Proficiency with VCenter, SAN Management, and iLO/iDRAC.
• Expertise with listed technologies and security/authentication products.

Responsibilities

• Lead operating system installation, configuration, monitoring, and support for VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems.
• Provide expert-level end-user support during core hours and rotational on-call support after core hours and on weekends.
• Lead hardware and software change management procedures, collaborating with the Change Advisory Board as necessary.
• Oversee troubleshooting and coordination of computer hardware repairs with vendors.
• Analyze new server hardware and software requirements, propose upgrades, and devise and test deployment strategies.
• Harden servers to established security baselines and maintain patch levels.
• Support Cyber Security Specialists during incident response activities.
• Assist end-users during escalated incidents.
• Manage maintenance tasks and maintain inventory records for servers, equipment, and software.
• Develop and maintain standard procedures for routine and recurring activities.
• Lead backup and restore support, monitor backup environment health, conduct annual restore tests, and troubleshoot failed backups including database backup and restore.
• Coordinate vendor upgrades and patching for responsible hardware and software platforms.
• Conduct compliance audits on supported systems.
