Job summary

Middlesex Community College (MCC) is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator for an on-campus role at the Lowell campus. The position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure and focuses on designing and implementing multi-vendor technology platforms to support college operations.

The role requires deep knowledge of Windows/Linux systems, virtualization, identity management, and secure computing. It emphasizes on-site presence and collaboration across departments, vendors, and staff.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (or higher) in related IT field with 5+ years of experience.
• Minimum 5 years managing systems in a large IT environment.
• Strong ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop remediation plans.
• Excellent customer service orientation and end-user focus.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise systems management tools.
• Experience with Windows and Linux server environments.

Responsibilities

• Optimize, reconfigure, and maintain existing systems with minimal disruption.
• Manage core infrastructure services, including Active Directory and virtualization.
• Administer VMware infrastructure including vCenter and ESXi.
• Handle identity management components and security tooling.
• Coordinate with external vendors/consultants on design and support.
• Analyze system performance data and propose improvements.
• Automate manual processes to reduce operational workload.
• Design migration paths and integrations for cross-system updates.
