Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a System Safety Engineer to work on space vehicles and in-space systems. You will partner with systems engineering to define and verify safety and reliability requirements, identify design improvement opportunities, and lead safety analyses to characterize risk.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of System Safety or Systems Engineering experience.
• Experience with safety analyses: FTA, PHA, FHA, FMECA, reliability analysis, and mitigating plans.
• Ability to lead and coordinate safety analysis across stakeholders and engineers from different fields.
• Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform and lead engineering activities including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Hazard Reports, FMECA, reliability analysis, and mitigation plans.
• Develop plans and coordinate completion of system and subsystem safety analyses, providing review and guidance.
• Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions and safety artifacts.
• Support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers across the program and company.
• Collaborate across systems to develop best practices and common processes.
