Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a Swim Instructor II to lead swim lessons for all ages and skill levels, ensuring a safe and supportive learning atmosphere. You will create lesson plans, teach proper techniques, and monitor progress, fostering positive development for participants.

You will join a team that values caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and you will report to the Aquatics Director.

Qualifications

• YMCA Swim Instructor certification (or equivalent) required.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid required or obtainable within 30 days of hire.
• Y-USA Leader Certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum 6 months experience working with students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, including for disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons (group, private, adaptive) for all ages and levels per YMCA guidelines.
• Create and implement lesson plans based on age and level; support participants’ goals.
• Teach swimming techniques, breathing, and water safety.
• Provide feedback to help students improve; maintain a positive environment.
• Maintain safety and manage student behavior during lessons.
• Build relationships with volunteers, members, and colleagues.
• Assist families in engaging with YMCA programs and schedules.
• Maintain attendance and progress records as required.
