Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber in Austin, TX seeks a Senior Surveyor to lead field surveying and geospatial projects for TxDOT, aviation clients, and municipalities. You will guide the team and ensure data quality across surveys.

Texas-licensed with 5+ years of experience; proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D or OpenRoads; mentor staff and manage projects with safety and precision.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Surveyor in Texas or ability to obtain licensure.
• 5+ years of progressive surveying/geospatial experience.
• Proficient with boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
• Experience with robotic total stations, RTK GPS, and data collectors.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads Designer.

Responsibilities

• Lead field survey and geospatial data collection operations.
• Plan projects, crew scheduling, resources, and logistics.
• Interpret legal descriptions, plats, and plans for boundary work.
• Perform complex survey computations and data processing.
• Integrate data from UAS, LiDAR, and mobile mapping.
• Review deliverables for TxDOT, FAA, and municipal standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and clients on scope and workflows.
• Mentor junior staff and promote technical excellence.
• Implement QA/QC procedures for the geospatial team.
• Support project budgeting, estimating, and proposals.
• Strengthen client relationships to grow Texas presence.

Senior Surveyor

Location: Austin, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

Working with our Geospatial team, you will lead impactful surveying and geospatial projects for TxDOT, aviation clients, municipalities, and construction initiatives across Texas while helping expand Fishbeck's presence in the state.

What You'll Do

• Lead and oversee field survey and geospatial data collection operations, ensuring accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
• Plan and coordinate projects, including crew scheduling, resource allocation, and logistics.
• Interpret legal descriptions, plats, and engineering plans to support boundary, right-of-way, and infrastructure projects.
• Perform and oversee complex survey computations and data processing for boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
• Integrate and manage data from UAS, terrestrial LiDAR, and mobile mapping platforms.
• Review and validate deliverables to ensure compliance with TxDOT, FAA, and municipal standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to define project scope, workflows, and strategies.
• Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering technical excellence and career growth.
• Implement QA/QC procedures, standards, and best practices for a growing geospatial team.
• Support project budgeting, estimating, and proposal development.
• Strengthen relationships with new and existing clients to help grow Fishbeck's Texas presence.

What We're Looking For

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Licensed Professional Surveyor in Texas, or ability to obtain licensure.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in surveying and/or geospatial services.
• Strong background in boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
• Experience with robotic total stations, RTK GPS, and data collectors.
• Familiarity with LiDAR, UAS, or mobile mapping technologies preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads Designer.
• Proven ability to lead crews, manage workflows, and deliver projects.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Visual acuity, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness necessary to perform surveying responsibilities.
