Job summary

Tufts Medicine in Boston, MA seeks an expert Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team throughout the perioperative care continuum. You will assist the surgeon, hand instruments, maintain aseptic technique, and ensure instrument counts and room readiness.

The role requires CST certification or equivalent, at least 8 years healthcare experience, and BLS. You will lead training for staff, coordinate equipment, and uphold safety standards in a fast-paced surgical service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduated from an accredited Surgical Tech Program (or military training in surgical technology).
• Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required if employed after July 1, 2013.
• 8 years of healthcare experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Responsibilities

• Functions professionally and independently as the Surgical Technologist Operating Room across a wide variety of surgical procedures.
• Maintains strict aseptic technique during setup, patient draping and during surgical procedure.
• Scrubs on surgical cases, organizes instrumentation for the surgeon, and participates in surgical counts.
• Selects and prepares the appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment for surgical cases.
• Performs related activities under the direction of the surgeon and follows OR policies.
• Collaborates with the circulating nurse on counts and medication management.
• Assists in positioning, moving and transporting patients as needed.
• Participates in training and mentoring of staff within the specialty service.
