Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Richmond, California seeks a Senior Surgical Technician to assist the surgical team before, during and after procedures, providing expert support and maintenance of instruments and equipment.

You will coordinate instrument setups, ensure sterility and readiness, assist with patient positioning, hand instruments to the surgeon, and help with room turnover while upholding patient safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of current acute Operating Room experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Surgical Technician certification from AORT or equivalent.
• Experience with minimally invasive, general, ENT, eyes, plastics, orthopedics, vascular, spine, urology, GYN, podiatry, maxillofacial, and neuro surgeries.
• Ability to train RNs and other disciplines in the scrub role.
• Reading, writing and basic computer skills.
• Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

• Direct, review, assign, and report on the work of Surgical Technicians.
• Coordinate equipment configuration and maintain sterility and readiness for procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, scrubbing procedures, and gowning.
• Hand instruments to surgeon, count sponges and instruments per policy, assist with dressings.
• Participate in patient safety initiatives and room turnover.
• Supervise and provide work direction to other staff as needed.
