Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC seeks a Certified Surgical First Assistant to support perioperative care. The CSFA collaborates with surgeons, assists in intraoperative procedures, and ensures patient safety from preop to postop.

The role may involve scrub duties and education of surgical residents as needed. Required experience includes CST/CSFA certifications and BLS; CSA/CFA program and an AS in Surgical Technology are preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduates from CSA/CFA program (CAAHEP/ABSA/NASC/CCI) preferred.
• Associate of Science in Surgical Technology preferred.
• 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• BLS certification required.
• CSFA and CST certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon as first assistant during designated procedures.
• Preoperative review of patient history and tests.
• Provide exposure and maintain hemostasis at the operative site.
• Suture and wound closure using proper techniques.
• Position patients and assist with transport to the OR.
• Maintain aseptic/sterile technique throughout the case.
• Educate and supervise perioperative staff as needed.
• Adapt to robotic cases and assist as directed.
