Job summary

Shawmut Design and Construction in California seeks a Senior Superintendent to lead daily field operations, ensuring safety, progress and quality on ground-up projects. The role requires strong leadership and the ability to manage diverse trades and crews across complex, high-visibility projects in higher education and commercial sectors.

You will partner with the PM to align schedules, budgets and milestones, while maintaining open dialogue with subcontractors and vendors.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience as a Project Superintendent at a general contractor
• Proven experience managing ground-up construction projects valued at $25M+
• DSA project experience in California
• Strong background delivering projects within the higher education sector
• Experience overseeing large-scale, complex projects from preconstruction through completion

Responsibilities

• Lead all daily field operations to ensure site safety, construction progress, quality control and a clean site
• Develop comprehensive understanding of project strategy and commitments including financial goals, scheduling, logistics, phasing, milestones, inspections
• Work in partnership with PM to maintain an updated and accurate project schedule that reflects the changes in project status and that meets the cost and time requirements of the project
• Demonstrate and maintain effective and open dialogue with the project team regarding changes in work, job conditions, subcontractor relations and any deviation in the direction of the project
• Always promotes positive relationships by dealing expertly and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors while instilling this philosophy in the project team

• Demonstrated DSA (California Department of State Architect) project experience
• Strong background delivering projects within the higher education sector
• Experience overseeing large-scale, complex construction projects from preconstruction through completion
• Experience in managing field personnel and all trades on site with great communication skills as well as the training, developing and mentoring of others
• Experience with complex and logistically challenging, fast paced and high visibility projects.

Salary Range Information

California Base Salary Range: $175,000 – $225,000 The range stated is specific to California.Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.
