General Contractor - Chicago
We are seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent on behalf of a Data Center General Contractor to take a leading role in the delivery of complex, large-scale construction projects within the data center and mission-critical sector.
This position will provide senior-level leadership across the construction site, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, consultants, clients, inspectors, and other project stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards across safety, quality, schedule, coordination, and overall construction execution.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to a construction professional who can operate independently, anticipate challenges, and confidently drive site activities from planning through completion.
The role is site-based, Mon-Fri and open to local Candidates or Candidates who are open to travel (per diem and housing will be offered to non-local Candidates).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership and direction to Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, and other site-based teams.
- Act as a key representative for the General Contractor throughout construction activities.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documentation to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements.
- Participate in constructability and preconstruction reviews, identifying potential challenges before they impact field execution.
- Establish and maintain effective site logistics, mobilization, access, staging, and material laydown strategies.
- Direct day-to-day construction activities to ensure work is delivered in accordance with approved design, schedule, budget, quality requirements, and safety standards.
- Coordinate sequencing and installation activities across multiple trades, including mechanical and electrical systems.
- Work closely with clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to maintain effective communication and project alignment.
- Lead short-term planning and look-ahead scheduling, ensuring field teams understand upcoming priorities and deliverables.
- Monitor construction progress and proactively identify risks to schedule, cost, quality, or productivity.
- Resolve field conflicts, unforeseen conditions, design discrepancies, coordination issues, and trade-interface challenges.
- Develop practical solutions and corrective actions to minimize disruption to project delivery.
- Provide technical interpretation of drawings, specifications, and contract requirements where necessary.
- Recommend construction methods, sequencing strategies, equipment, and process improvements to enhance project performance.
- Review subcontractor change requests and work with project management to validate scope, cost, and contractual entitlement.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, meeting documentation, progress records, and other required project information.
- Ensure site personnel comply with project-specific safety procedures, site rules, and applicable regulations.
- Identify safety concerns, document issues, and work with project leadership to implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Coordinate site administration, accounting requirements, MEP activities, and other field functions in partnership with the wider project team.
- Foster a collaborative site culture built around accountability, communication, safety, and successful project delivery.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of industry experience.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
- A minimum of 8 years of construction and/or craft supervision experience.
- At least 5 years of Data Center experience as a Site Superintendent or Project Engineer.
- Hands-on experience with the installation of mechanical and electrical systems within data center environments.
Additional Experience & Skills
- Experience leading larger and increasingly complex construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, equipment, and field operations.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, construction terminology, and relevant technical disciplines.
- Experience with construction scheduling, project coordination, and cost control.
- Ability to prepare, maintain, and manage comprehensive project documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong problem‑solving ability with the confidence to make decisions independently in a fast‑moving construction environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and establish a collaborative project culture.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to identifying issues and developing solutions before they affect project delivery.

Compensation Package
- Base salary up to $180k
