Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior/Lead Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to own high‑voltage protection designs for 12–500 kV systems. You will apply relay logic, create diagrams, and guide a team through design, testing, and energization.

Collaborate with clients and internal teams, ensure NEC safety and compliance, manage scope and schedule, and pursue growth and mentorship in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8+ years in substation protection and control design.
• Experience leading substation protection and control projects.
• Clear communication with internal teams and clients.
• Proactive, organized, and able to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support delivery of substation protection and control design projects.
• Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and topology.
• Develop AC schematics showing current, voltage and device relationships.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics for safe operation of equipment.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and layouts for constructability.
• Build BOMs aligned with project criteria and client requirements.
• Perform QC checks on wiring and schematic designs for safety and accuracy.
• Contribute from scoping through energization support.
• Provide technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Apply NEC requirements to ensure safe and compliant designs.
• Interpret utility-specific standards across all deliverables.
• Collaborate with design staff to produce complete drawing packages.
