Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Substation Protection & Control Engineer in Raleigh, NC to design and detail protection and control systems for transmission and distribution substations. You will prepare procurement specs and cost estimates, coordinate with clients and vendors, and mentor junior staff.

The role requires ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering training and 10+ years of related experience, with strong communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
• 10+ years in Substation Protection & Control design engineering
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
• Excellent document management and organization skills
• Strong attention to detail and quality
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Team-oriented with client/stakeholder interaction

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems using applicable codes and client standards
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution substations
• Develop relay protection schemes, relay settings criteria, control philosophies, and engineering calculations
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement, design scopes, and cost estimates
• Complete conceptual protection and control designs and layouts for new and existing substation facilities
• Prepare support documentation for procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation/maintenance
• Direct and participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors
• Lead technical reviews and ensure compliance with QA/QC processes
• Mentor and provide technical oversight to junior engineers and designers
• Review calculations, drawings, and specifications for quality, consistency, and compliance
