Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Substation Protection & Control design engineer based in Raleigh. The role involves developing relay protection schemes, control philosophies, and detailed engineering calculations for transmission and distribution substations.

You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, prepare procurement and construction documentation, and lead QA/QC reviews. Strong communication and leadership are essential for mentoring junior engineers and ensuring project success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 7–10 years of experience in Substation Protection & Control design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems using applicable codes and client standards.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution substations.
• Develop relay protection schemes, relay settings criteria, control philosophies, and engineering calculations.
• Create equipment and material specifications, design scopes, and cost estimates.
• Complete conceptual protection and control designs and layouts for new and existing substation facilities.
• Prepare support documentation for procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations/maintenance.
• Lead and participate in client meetings and job site visits.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead compliance with QA/QC processes, including technical review and approval of engineering design packages.
• Mentor and oversee junior engineers and designers and review calculations, drawings, and specifications.
