Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation in Raleigh, NC seeks an Engineer III or Senior Engineer for Protection and Control Engineering to design protection/relay schemes for substations (23kV–500kV) and develop detailed drawings and settings. You will manage multiple projects, collaborate with field teams, and ensure designs meet IEEE/NERC standards using CAD tools.

Responsibilities include creating scopes, wiring diagrams, BOMs, release packages, and technical reports while maintaining schedules and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program (Master's considered in lieu).
• Minimum 4 years engineering experience for Engineer III; 6+ years or PE for Senior Engineer.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer may be required at senior level.

Responsibilities

• Develops detailed project scopes, layouts of control equipment enclosures, detailed elementary, schematic and wiring diagram drawings for substations.
• Coordinates work to manage multiple projects to ensure timely release of designs.
• Utilizes CAD/design standards and reference sources to complete engineering work.
• Produces release packages with drawings, bills of materials, and relay setting files.
• Provides engineering guidance for problem analysis and resolution.
• Plans and monitors activities to meet schedules and business goals.
• Prepares technical reports and sketches related to defined problems.
• Conducts studies and designs with moderate impact on existing systems.
• Demonstrates strong communication and documentation practices.
• Maintains records and supports field personnel during implementation.
