Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Substation Design Engineer in Fort Worth to lead protection and control system work for transmission and distribution projects. You will collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust designs and documentation.

Responsibilities include developing relay protection schemes, performing engineering calculations, and mentoring junior staff. Strong communication and QA/QC focus are required for success.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree.
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication with clients.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems per codes and client standards.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for substations.
• Create relay protection schemes, settings criteria, and engineering calculations.
• Prepare equipment specs for procurement and cost estimates.
• Complete conceptual protection and control designs for new/existing facilities.
• Prepare documentation supporting procurement, commissioning, and operation.
• Lead or participate in client meetings and site visits for data collection.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to execute projects and resolve issues.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and perform technical review of design packages.
• Mentor and oversee junior engineers and designers.
