Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Protection & Control Engineer to guide substation P&C design from concept through construction in the U.S. You will mentor junior engineers, develop code-compliant solutions, and coordinate with clients and cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (ABET) and 10+ years in substation physical design, with proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and MS Office.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
• 10+ years of substation physical design engineering experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong document management and organizational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team-oriented with professional client interaction.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems per codes and client standards, including diagrams, BOMs, and SCADA interfaces.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution substations.
• Create relay protection schemes, settings criteria, and associated engineering calculations.
• Produce equipment and material specifications for procurement and project scope.
• Prepare conceptual protection and control designs for new and existing facilities.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation/maintenance with documentation.
• Engage with clients and site teams to collect data and present engineering solutions.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success and resolve technical issues.
• Lead QA/QC reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
