Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a project team working on high and extra high voltage substation design. The role includes preparing and reviewing detailed substation drawings and leading field walkdowns at client facilities.

Responsibilities cover coordinating with engineers, applying design standards, and mentoring designers while ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery. Hybrid work schedule with in-office presence required three days per week.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation drawings including General Arrangement and equipment plans.
• Lead field walkdowns, gather data at client facilities, and discuss walkdown issues.
• Ensure designs conform to codes, standards, and Client's standards.
• Provide guidance to designers and review calculations.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches for projects.
• Coordinate inputs from other disciplines for integrated designs.
• Manage work plan within budget and schedule.
• Supervise and provide performance feedback to assigned staff.
• Oversee day-to-day staff performance.
