Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Principal Substation Physical Engineer in Orlando, FL. You will lead HV/MV substation physical design for large utility projects, setting design standards and guiding technical studies.

You will mentor engineers, oversee procurement decisions and BOMs, and collaborate with clients to deliver reliable grid solutions. Hybrid work available with in-office and remote days.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related engineering field.
• 12+ years of progressive substation physical design experience.
• FloridaPE license or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV/MV substation physical design for medium-to-large utility projects.
• Review and guide advanced technical studies: grounding, arc flash, lightning, AC/DC load, protections.
• Develop, refine, and enforce design criteria, specs, and equipment standards.
• Lead QC reviews of major substation design packages and ensure constructability.
• Oversee BOM development, cost estimates, and proposal strategies.
• Provide senior technical coaching and mentorship to engineers.
