Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Substation P&C Engineer for our Richmond, VA office. You will support the design, analysis, and construction of utility-scale substations with emphasis on protection and control, including control schematics, wiring, interconnection diagrams, and panel documentation.

You will review drawings, vendor submittals, and project plans, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NESC and utility standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of post-education experience in substation P&C design.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience delivering substation protection and control design deliverables (schematics, wiring, interconnection diagrams, panels).
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or MicroStation; familiarity with Aspen, CAPE, ETAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for substation protection and control design.
  • Develop and review single line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring, and panel documentation.
  • Assist in concept development and detailed design with emphasis on safety and constructability.
  • Support senior engineers with equipment and P&C component evaluation per utility standards.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for site conditions and constructability.
  • Produce calculations and technical documentation for design deliverables.
  • Ensure QC procedures and compliance with project standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements.
  • Assist with scoping small to medium substation projects under senior staff guidance.
  • Contribute to technical reports and design presentations.
