Job summary

Omaha Public Power District is seeking a Senior Substation Modification & Compliance Engineer to lead expert reviews, design robust maintenance programs, and drive reliability across the fleet.

You will coordinate outage strategies, guide oil compliance, and advance regulatory documentation while mentoring engineers and shaping departmental standards to meet evolving requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have PE license in NE or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• Strong understanding of regulations and standards.

Position Overview

As a Senior Substation Modification & Compliance Engineer at OPPD, you will provide expert-level leadership in substation maintenance, documentation, and regulatory compliance. You will oversee complex engineering evaluations, coordinate maintenance needs with manufacturers, guide OPPD’s oil compliance and testing documentation, and lead NERC/SIP compliance efforts. You will manage high-impact engineering workstreams, develop departmental standards, and deliver strategic insights that enhance substation reliability and operational excellence across OPPD’s fleet.

The Impact You'll Have

• Lead expert review of breaker, transformer, and oil test results and determine long-term maintenance strategies
• Develop and manage the Protection System Maintenance Program, ensuring thorough documentation, precise scheduling, and audit readiness
• Direct analysis and optimization of asset configuration within Cascade to ensure reliability and continuous improvement
• Coordinate outage strategies and work plans with Field Supervisors to support district-wide operational continuity
• Deliver advanced engineering design support, technical troubleshooting, and conceptual cost development for substation modifications
• Provide program-level analytics, performance metrics, and data-driven insights that strengthen maintenance strategy
• Lead NERC/SIP/EPA compliance activities, audit coordination, and documentation efforts, ensuring OPPD meets evolving regulatory expectations
• Shape departmental policies related to maintenance and compliance and provide leadership support during Principal Engineer absences
• Mentor engineering staff across all levels and advance technical capability throughout the organization

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain Nebraska registration within 6 months through reciprocity and relevant experience.
