Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to oversee engineering and consulting services across the United States.

You will lead physical substation design, grounding, lightning protection, and related systems, delivering yard layouts and components for projects of varying size and voltage class. Responsibilities include proposing scopes, cost estimates, and schedules; coordinating with other departments; mentoring junior staff; and supporting business development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years related experience (master's substitution may apply).
• Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with the National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans.
• Prepare engineering cost estimates and schedules.
• Perform physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details.
• Handle grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, inland/outdoor raceways, and power systems.
• Support design coordination with Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams.
• Develop and improve processes, tools, or technology implementations.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to engineers and designers.
• Engage with clients and other personnel for project alignment.
• Perform quality reviews and provide field support during construction.
• Assist business development and marketing initiatives.
