Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Senior Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for high-voltage substation projects (13kV–765kV) in a dynamic team setting. You will supervise from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with standards and client needs while coordinating schedules and budgets.

The role requires ABET-accredited degrees, 7+ years of substation experience or FE route with ABET degree, and a PE license is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree and 7+ years substation experience or FE with ABET degree and 7+ years experience.
• Strong written/verbal communication and analytical/problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; detail-oriented and organized.
• Leadership and collaboration in a team environment.
• Ability to apply engineering principles to broad assignments.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from conceptual phase to completion.
• Develop design packages: physical layouts, relaying, grounding, studies.
• Prepare calculations: insulation, DC systems, cable sizing, conduit fill.
• Create design sketches, BOMs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Apply IEEE, NESC standards; lead field inspections.
• Manage schedules and budgets under supervision; QA/QC.
• Develop client relationships and lead proposals.
