Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Electrical Engineer for our Billings, MT office, with consideration for Bozeman, MT. You will contribute to the Power & Energy Substation Team delivering substation design, P&C packages, and related technical documentation.

The role requires 3–5 years in substation design, strong knowledge of IEEE/NESC standards, and proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation/Inventor.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
3–5 years of post‑education experience in electrical engineering for substations.
Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Experience supporting substation physical design and/or protection and control (P&C) design deliverables (GA drawings, layouts, diagrams, wiring, schematics).
Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and client standards.
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, and/or Inventor.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

Prepare one‑line and three‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
Develop GA drawings and substation layouts in coordination with other disciplines.
Design grounding grids and lightning protection per standards.
Conduct site walkdowns and provide field support for design questions and issues.
Develop electrical calculations: load, sizing, voltage drop, lighting, etc.
Prepare design narratives and engineering reports for internal and client submissions.
Participate in QA/QC and design reviews for accuracy and conformance.
Collaborate with clients, utilities, and project stakeholders.
