Job summary

Jacobs in Seattle is hiring a Senior Substation Designer to deliver P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS substations. You will collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors through design, construction, and commissioning phases.

You will mentor junior designers, support QA/QC, and help implement digital design tools while coordinating with global teams. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and strong growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years of substation design experience.
• Experience in both P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS Substations.
• Experience supporting substation projects from 12 kV through 500 kV.
• Understanding of project execution from conceptual engineering through construction support and commissioning.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.
• Strong understanding of substation equipment, grounding, lightning protection, raceway design, SCADA systems, relays and relay panels, breaker and fuse applications.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and utility requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complete P&C and physical design packages for substation projects.
• Prepare wiring diagrams, panel layouts, relay and SCADA drawings.
• Develop cable schedules and routing plans.
• Size DC/AC distribution breakers and fuses.
• Create station one-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Develop grounding, lightning protection, raceway, trench, and cable tray layouts.
• Coordinate equipment locations and site data during walkthroughs.
• Participate in constructability reviews and design development.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and integrate into design packages.
• Review design standards, vendor drawings and client requirements for consistency.
