Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to deliver Protection & Control and Physical Design packages for AIS and GIS substations. You will work with engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors to develop detailed design packages from concept through construction support, mentoring junior designers along the way.

The role requires 12+ years in substation design, strong AutoCAD/MicroStation skills, and a deep understanding of NEC/NESC/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years of substation design experience.
• Experience in P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS Substations.
• Experience with 12 kV through 500 kV projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and utility requirements.
• Able to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complete P&C point-to-point wiring design packages for utility and industrial substation projects.
• Prepare panel wiring diagrams, field interconnection wiring diagrams, and relay panel layouts.
• Develop cable schedules and routing plans.
• Size DC/AC distribution breakers and fuses.
• Create station one-line diagrams and equipment layouts.
• Develop grounding plans and lightning protection layouts.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors throughout project execution.
• Review design deliverables for quality and compliance.
• Mentor junior designers and drafters; support QA/QC processes.
