Job summary

Haydon Healy is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer – Physical Design to lead engineering and physical design of substations across utility and power delivery projects in the United States.

The role requires 6+ years of experience, strong design standards knowledge, and ownership from design through construction; PE license preferred. You will coordinate with multiple disciplines, review drawings, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of professional engineering experience in electric utilities or substations.
• Experience with substation physical design and 69kV–345kV+ projects.
• Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee physical substation designs for utility and power delivery projects.
• Prepare and review substation drawings including general arrangements, site plans, sections, elevations, and layouts.
• Coordinate with Protection & Controls, Civil/Structural, Transmission, and Distribution teams.
• Review drawings and construction packages for technical accuracy.
• Support design through construction and commissioning phases.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
• Participate in client meetings and guide project teams.
• Perform site visits and field investigations.
