Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Substation Designer for our Houston office to create design drawing packages for substations from 12kV to 500kV. You will develop electrical layouts, foundation drawings, conduit plans, and BOMs, adhering to applicable standards and safety practices.

Work with other disciplines and vendors, review vendor drawings, and contribute to process improvements while applying MicroStation and AutoCAD with strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline is required.
• 2+ years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software (Level 1).
• 4+ years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software (Level 2).
• Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Strong Windows-based skills (Word and Excel) used to develop deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical layout/plan of substation equipment and structures.
• Create substation foundation layout/plan drawings.
• Produce section/elevation views from layout/plan drawings.
• Prepare conduit layout/plan drawings.
• Create substation grounding layout/plan drawings.
• Develop control building layout/plan and section/elevation drawings.
• Develop a complete bill of materials for electrical equipment and materials.
• Review equipment drawings from vendors and manufacturers.
• Collaborate with Civil Engineers and other disciplines as needed.
• Assist the project team with improving processes and efficiency.
• Perform basic engineering calculations to support design.
• Apply relevant client, national, and state standards as needed.
