Job summary

Leidos Engineering is seeking a Substation Designer to create substation design drawing packages and documents for electric power substations (12kV–500kV). You will develop electrical layouts, foundations, conduit and grounding plans, and control building drawings, while preparing schematics and wiring designs.

You will review vendor drawings and collaborate across disciplines to ensure quality and safety. Many opportunities exist with compensation matched to experience; opportunity level

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related field preferred. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
• 1+ years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software on electric utility industry projects.
• Solid comprehension of 2D and 3D design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor 3D w/ SDS.
• Proficient with Word and Excel for project deliverables.
• Ability to learn and utilize new design software programs.
• Advanced ability to prepare 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
• Ability to work in a team with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters.
• Experience on EPC or design-build contracts
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and work product quality.

Responsibilities

• Develop new or modify existing electrical layout/plan drawings for substation equipment and structures.
• Prepare electrical schematics and wiring design drawings.
• Develop a complete bill of materials for electrical equipment and materials.
• Review equipment drawings from vendors and manufacturers.
• Collaborate with Civil Engineers and other disciplines to complete tasks.
• Assist the project team in developing processes to increase efficiency.
• Perform basic engineering calculations to support design.
