Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Sr Staff Attorney (LM07DE) to manage a portfolio of subrogation matters from inception through trial, primarily remote for California-based candidates. The role emphasizes property damage and workers’ compensation claims, with some premises, products liability, and auto defense work.

You will collaborate with Claims, lead strategy on files, and advance cases toward prompt, fair resolutions using in-house tools.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Domicile and active license to practice in California.
• 5+ years of relevant litigation experience including subrogation.
• First-chair jury trial and/or appellate experience preferred.
• Strong legal writing, research, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with California courts and local practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage subrogation files from inception through trial or resolution.
• Analyze issues, perform legal research, develop defense strategies.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs with minimal supervision.
• Take and defend depositions; work with experts and witnesses.
• Represent clients at trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations.
• Provide timely legal advice to Claims and insured partners.
• Communicate with courts, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
