Job summary

The Hartford in California seeks a Sr Staff Attorney to manage auto and general liability matters from inception through trial, partnering with Claims and advising insureds. This remote role favors a seasoned litigator with significant trial experience and must be licensed in California.

You’ll lead defense strategy, draft filings, take depositions, and represent clients at hearings and arbitrations. Occasional in-person appearances may be required, with ongoing collaboration across the in-house

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active California license to practice law.

Responsibilities

• Manage an inventory of insurance defense matters from inception to trial or resolution.
• Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs with minimal supervision.
• Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
• Represent clients at trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and ADR proceedings.
• Provide timely legal advice and liability/damages evaluations to Claims and insured partners.
• Communicate effectively with courts, opposing counsel, witnesses, and co-counsel.
