Job summary

The Hartford is seeking an experienced Sr Staff Attorney for subrogation, primarily remote in California with occasional in-person appearances. Handle property damage and workers’ compensation matters, with exposure to premises, products, and auto claims.

Collaborate with Claims and advise insureds directly, leading files from inception through trial. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of litigation, California bar admission, strong writing and advocacy, and comfort working in a technology-driven

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant litigation experience, including subrogation, insurance defense and complex tort matters.
• Domicile and active license to practice in California and ability to appear in applicable local state and federal courts.
• Member in good standing of the applicable Bar Association.
• JD from an accredited law school.

Responsibilities

• Manage an inventory of subrogation files relating to property damage and workers’ compensation claims.
• Analyze substantive and procedural issues; conduct legal research; develop defense strategies.
• Draft and respond to pleadings, written discovery, dispositive motions, and briefs with minimal supervision.
• Take and defend depositions; work with experts; prepare witnesses for testimony.
• Represent clients at trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other ADR proceedings.
• Provide timely legal advice and liability evaluations to Claims and insured partners.
