Job summary

Tiello LLC is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead front-end structural steel estimates for commercial, healthcare, and industrial projects. You will develop budgets and pricing from incomplete designs, draft assumptions, and collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, GCs, and internal teams throughout preconstruction.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in structural steel estimating, deep detailing and fabrication knowledge, and experience mentoring others.

Qualifications

5+ years of structural steel estimating experience.
Experience with budgets and pricing for steel fabrication/erection.
Ability to develop conceptual and design-assist estimates from incomplete designs.
Strong understanding of detailing, fabrication, erection, and project execution.
Experience with complex commercial/industrial projects.
Leadership or mentoring experience in estimating/preconstruction.
Proficiency with Tekla, Bluebeam, or Trimble Suite preferred.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.

Responsibilities

Lead conceptual, schematic, GMP, design-assist, and final steel estimates.
Develop budgets from conceptual, incomplete, or early-stage project information.
Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for structural steel fabrication and erection.
Establish and document estimating assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, and project risks.
Develop historical cost benchmarks and maintain accurate pricing databases.
Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and internal teams during preconstruction.
Participate in preconstruction meetings, pursuits, and value engineering discussions.
Provide structural steel expertise to influence design decisions and develop cost-effective solutions.
Support bid/no-bid decisions and pursue strategic opportunities.
Monitor steel market conditions, material pricing, and procurement opportunities.
Develop proposal narratives, qualifications, clarifications, exclusions, and pricing strategies.
Support executive leadership with budgets, forecasts, negotiations, and strategic planning.
Conduct estimate-to-actual reviews to improve estimating accuracy and profitability.
Establish and improve estimating standards, procedures, tools, and best practices.
Mentor junior and mid-level estimating staff.
