Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. is seeking a structural engineer to mentor junior staff, collaborate on diverse projects, and help deliver reliable, safe structures that serve communities in the region.

You will design and analyze projects with CAD tools, lead assignments, coordinate with other disciplines, and oversee contract administration. Sioux Falls, SD-based position with opportunities for growth and community impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the design and construction of structures.
• ND Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain the license within 6 months required.
• Experience operating MicroStation OpenRoads preferred (but not required).
• Strong leadership and project management skills.
• Working knowledge of project team roles and responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with groups both internally and externally.
• SD PE License or ability to get within 6 months preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering analyses, schedules, technical reports, etc.
• Design structural engineering projects together with CAD designers.
• Attend meetings and communicate with other civil engineering disciplines and outside consultants or agencies, to advance structural projects from conceptual level to final design.
• Manage all aspects of contract administration which includes writing, change requests, invoices, and progress payments and maintain project budget and costs.
• Perform in-service safety inspections and load ratings of existing bridges.
• Mentor and oversee the work of less experienced structural engineer team members.
