Job summary

City of Detroit, Department of Public Works - City Engineering Division is seeking a Bridge/Structures Engineer to supervise a team and oversee the design, inspection, and construction of bridges and related structures. The role includes coordinating staff, ensuring reporting, and maintaining load ratings for city assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in civil/structural engineering or related field.
• Five (5) years of progressive experience in the design and construction of bridges and structures, two (2) years in a supervisory capacity and include surveying and field inspection work.
• MDOT Project Engineering experience on multiple projects of varying complexity and disciplines such as bridges, retaining walls and structures, and ADA ramp construction.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspection, design and construction of bridges and structures, and maintain related records.
• Supervise engineers and drafting technicians and assign/inspect work.
• Coordinate staffing for inspectors, testing technicians, and surveyors in support of project design and construction.
• Ensure procedures are followed for inspection of bridges and structures and proper reporting in MiBridge.
• Maintain current load ratings for all city bridges.
• Prepare plans and specifications for rehabilitation, repair and replacement of bridges and structures.
