Job summary

NYS Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician in the Office of Structures, Buffalo, NY. The role involves drafting using MicroStation, performing computations, and developing engineering models for design, visualization and estimation.

Qualifications

Two years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting in structural engineering.
Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture, or architectural technology or a CAD certificate with one year of specialized civil engineering experience.
Certificates from a trade or technical school accepted only if regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education.

Responsibilities

Prepare drawings of moderate to complex difficulty for structural projects using MicroStation; prepare and check engineering computations.
Prepare and check quantity estimates.
Perform field investigations to collect or confirm data.
Develop and utilize complete physical engineering models for design, clash detection, visualization, construction coordination, contract plan preparation, and estimating.
Address special assignments to meet management needs.
