Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Senior Strategic Project Manager to lead complex engineering projects in the pork and packaged meat industry. You will apply engineering and math to design and develop technical projects, lead multiple teams, and guide budgets, schedules, and scope while anticipating external issues and providing broad solutions.

The role requires strong project management, leadership, and communication skills, with travel for site work and a focus on cost optimization and reliable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred.
• Must possess Project Management skills; Contract Administration skills; National codes and standards interpretation skills.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
• Travel is required with extended overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes the overall project to ensure success through team development, multiple plans (budget, schedule, risk management, etc), and monitoring with corrective action.
• Develops the overall budget through thorough engineering practices to enable informed decisions and ensures sub-teams manage their budgets.
• Develops the overall schedule with good engineering practices and monitors progress to deliver as specified.
• Develops preliminary engineering designs to meet project needs and monitors scope to prevent creep while keeping leadership informed.
• May lead multiple teams and develops management routines to ensure project success.
• Develops communication plans to keep the organization engaged and informed of project status; pro-actively communicates issues with solutions.
• Continuously improves robotic and controls knowledge to execute innovative solutions.
