Job summary

The Southern Environmental Law Center seeks a Litigation Strategy Director, a senior leader responsible for strategy, standards, and professional development to keep SELC’s litigation among the best in the country.

This full-time, exempt role offers hybrid work across multiple offices and relocation assistance. Senior leadership will guide litigation strategy and mentor attorneys across SELC’s offices and jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of litigation experience with significant first-chair responsibility.
• Active license to practice law in one of SELC’s states or DC.
• Strong understanding of administrative law, civil procedure, remedies, and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders to make litigation central to program plans and advocacy.
• Serve as principal advisor on litigation strategy and major filings.
• Approve novel or consequential litigation decisions and oversee approvals.
• Anticipate legal developments and guide teams on emerging risks.
• Supervise attorneys and mentor litigators to build sound judgment.
• Set priorities for litigation training and professional development.
• Assess capacity, deploy resources, and advise on hiring for senior litigators.
• Coordinate strategy with national and regional partners and clients.
• Represent SELC’s litigation work with donors, press, and the public.
