Job summary

New Hanover County is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to become the Chief Project Engineer for Stormwater Services. The role leads design, regulatory oversight, and project management for county drainage and stormwater infrastructure.

You will coordinate data collection, modeling, and maintenance programs, while supervising staff and guiding engineering initiatives to support safe, sustainable infrastructure for the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or must be obtained.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible engineering experience with leadership/supervisory duties.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee designs, calculations, plans, specs, and bid documents for drainage/stormwater projects.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for assigned drainage projects and oversee engineering analyses and certifications.
• Develop stormwater plans, asset inventories, and watershed planning.
• Coordinate data collection, analysis, and modeling for infrastructure planning.
• Oversee staff, trainings, budgets, and project scheduling.
