Job summary

New Hanover County's Engineering Department seeks a Chief Project Engineer (Stormwater Services) to provide technical leadership on drainage and stormwater infrastructure, oversee designs, and guide regulatory compliance. The role focuses on engineering analysis, project management, and staff supervision to deliver safe, sustainable solutions for the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related Engineering field; five years of progressively responsible engineering experience including two years supervisory and project management experience in storm water, erosion control, public utilities, and site development.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
• Valid Driver's License; if/when coming from out of state, NC license must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering designs, calculations, construction plans, specifications, quantity estimates, and bid documents for drainage and stormwater projects.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for assigned drainage improvement projects and exercise responsible charge over analyses, plans, specs, and related documents.
• Develop and maintain stormwater and drainage infrastructure plans, including asset inventories and watershed planning.
• Coordinate drainage and stormwater data collection, analysis, and modeling to support planning decisions.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff and contractors to develop and implement drainage and stormwater maintenance programs.
