Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, ME seeks a Stationary Engineer II to operate and maintain boilers, chillers and related equipment in a 24/7, highly regulated research facility. You will log maintenance activities, monitor plant data, and respond to issues after hours to ensure animal welfare and research integrity.

Required 3+ years in facilities maintenance, Maine Third Class Stationary Engineer or higher, and willingness to work rotating 12‑hour shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of maintenance experience in large-scale utilities.
• State of Maine Third Class Stationary Engineer or higher.
• Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and monitors high‑pressure boilers, steam turbines, chillers, incinerators and power distribution systems.
• Monitors instrumentation and records operational data for reliability.
• Uses CMMS to document maintenance activities and generate reports.
• Provides 24/7 on-site facilities coverage and urgent corrective action when needed.
• Adheres to safety, regulatory requirements and watch-stander protocols.
