Job summary

AV is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Safety Engineer to lead system safety for unmanned systems supporting defense and commercial applications. You will develop safety programs, perform hazard analyses, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities include coordinating safety documentation, driving mitigations, and presenting findings at program reviews. A DoD clearance and 8+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and DoD security clearance.
• 8+ years of safety/weapon system safety experience.
• Experience applying MIL-STD-882E in defense/aerospace.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain System Safety Program per MIL-STD-882E.
• Plan and perform hazard analyses (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA).
• Conduct FMECA and related safety analyses to support mitigations.
• Derive and track safety requirements across subsystems and interfaces.
• Produce safety documents: SSMP/SSPP, SAR, Hazard Logs, HMMP.
• Collaborate with design teams to implement mitigations and verify efficacy.
• Present analyses at technical reviews and safety boards.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive process improvements.
