Job summary

Allison Transmission is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to drive development and deployment of strategic electronic controls solutions for propulsion systems. You will manage requirements, assess risks, and mentor teams across disciplines to ensure robust design and validation.

The role calls for leadership in system integration, awareness of cost, quality, and schedule constraints, and strong communication with suppliers and cross-functional groups to deliver high-quality components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar field.
  • Proven autonomous work within established practices and procedures.
  • Experience in automotive and commercial vehicle applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop specifications, statements of work, and action plans for electro-mechanical components for propulsion systems.
  • Lead validation plans for components and systems in lab, test cell, vehicle environments, and with suppliers.
  • Prepare status reports, schedules, and budgets for executives and teams.
  • Identify gaps and risks, and track mitigation actions.
  • Provide oversight in root cause investigations for field issues.
  • Lead system integration with control systems engineering teams.
  • Offer advanced technical support to suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams.

Job Description:

The Senior Staff Engineer is responsible for the development and deployment of strategic electronic controls solutions. It includes customer, product and system-level requirements development and validation. Must be capable of effectively assessing and mitigating risk across all levels and multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop specifications, statements of work, and action plans to source, design, develop, and release electro-mechanical components for conventional and electrified propulsion systems
  • Develop, oversee, and serve as a subject matter expert on the execution of validation plans for components and systems in laboratory, test cell, vehicle environments and with suppliers
  • Prepare and present technical status reports, schedules, and budgets for a variety of audiences including Executive Staff
  • Proactively identify gaps and risks in the design and validation of the components and develop/support/track mitigation plans
  • Provide a high level of oversight and guidance in the root cause investigation and resolution of field issues as opportunities with fielded products arise
  • Exercise project leadership in system integration with control systems engineering teams
  • Provide advanced product technical support to suppliers, customers and cross functional departments
Key Performance Measures:
  • Decision-making characteristics for the Electromechanical components with suppliers, source of supply issues, continuous improvements, and New Product Development initiatives
  • Deliver quality validated components per project milestones
  • Provide programmatic leadership that optimize cost, quality and timing constraints
  • Frequently sought out as a resource by other team members and /or functions as a mentor to guide decision making and action plans

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or similar engineering discipline Proven and successful record of working autonomously within established practices and procedures

Experience:
  • 20+ years of experience with developing electronic control system hardware
  • Experience in the Automotive and Commercial Vehicle applications
  • Experience with DVP&R development.
