Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role: The Senior Quality and Reliability Engineer is responsible for implementing ATI quality policies and procedures in the manufacturing part fabrication and assembly environment. Activities include monitoring various elements of operations quality, problem solving to correct issues, and reporting results. This individual will exercise a high level of independent judgment using a considerable amount of creativity, initiative and determination. This individual will lead focused teams and will drive corrective action, preventative action and continuous improvement activities on a variety of tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect, analyze, document, and develop corrective action strategies for internal and external quality related issues.
  • Organize, coordinate and interface with OEM’s regarding parts and transmission concerns.
  • Coordinate continuous improvement activities and corrective action activities to closure.
  • Provide professional reports on quality investigations, findings, and results.
  • Develop and/or complete plant reliability tests to analyze and solve problems.
  • Analyze product and process design to prevent and correct problems.
  • Develop, conduct, and complete required reliability, process, and product audits.
  • Participate in IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 audits.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with cross-functional organizations.
  • Implements and actively supports the plant and corporate safety policies and initiatives.
  • Provide a physical presence in the workplace.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for assigned responsibilities.

Competencies & Behaviors: Required: High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult. Strong problem solving capabilities for complex issues. High level of knowledge of product engineering and manufacturing/assembly processes. High level of interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with business partners and diverse work groups to meet mutual goals required. Ability to lead cross functional teams in problem solving and other initiatives. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of ISO 9000: IATF 16949 requirements. Ability to effectively use computer software. Familiarity with SPC, PFMEA, Process Control Plans, 8D Corrective Action Strategy and Layered Process Audits. Able to work independently and make decisions utilizing available information and processes. Ability to interface with customers in a professional manner to address concerns and issues. Able to analyze processes and products to proactively identify areas of concern and implement countermeasures to prevent defects. Ability to compile clear and concise reports and summaries of issues and present them to customers and Allison personnel.

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of ATI Quality and Reliability policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of automatic transmission.
  • Knowledge of blue print reading and dimensional layout, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Gear Analyzer familiarity.
  • Knowledge of gaging techniques and applications
  • Knowledge of inspection processes and techniques
Qualifications:
  • Required: Bachelors degree in Engineering related program
  • Required: 5+ years' experience in Quality Engineer or related role.
