Job summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Sr Staff Software Engineer to lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap for high-performance insurance platforms. You will work with senior engineers to design scalable, reliable systems with strong observability in a hybrid cloud environment.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentoring, security, and modern software engineering practices to transform platform services and drive business value.

Qualifications

• Fluency in at least one modern language (Go preferred, Java a plus).
• Proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, available and reliable systems in production.
• Understanding of security best practices and data encryption technology.
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, including stateful services management and storage.
• Understanding of networking, caches, key/value stores, load balancing, global load balancing, queues, DNS and CDN.
• Deep knowledge of DevOps practices, methodologies, and principles, with on-prem and public cloud networks, compute, and storage.
• In-depth knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture, IaaS and PaaS, container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes), cloud efficiency and observability.
• Strong background in incident management and post-incident analysis.
• Experience with open-source management and monitoring tools.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes container management system.
• Familiarity with cloud security and compliance standards.
• Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and drive the overall technical roadmap for the Digital Personal Auto Sales platform, aligning with business goals.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-discipline teams to build optimal platform strategy.
• Lead design and architecture of resilient, scalable services across on‑premises and cloud.
• Champion safe deployment practices to enable continuous delivery of business value.
• Contribute to and lead day-to-day engineering activities, including code, tests, PRs, CI/CD, and production support.
• Develop incident response plans and runbooks for various disaster scenarios across partner integrations.
• Mentor the engineering and product community and drive operational excellence.
