Job summary

Standard Bots is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of Bolt, an autonomous mobile base with robot arms. You will own the mechanical architecture and guide the team from concept through prototype, test, and production release.

The role emphasizes hands-on design in SolidWorks, rigorous analysis, and collaboration with Safety and Manufacturing to meet certification standards in a fast-paced environment based in the Boston area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
• 10+ years of product design experience, including mobile robot or AMR/AGV ships at scale
• Strong mastery of structures, load paths, fatigue, and drivetrain components
• Expert in SolidWorks with large assemblies, drawings, and simulations
• Ability to lead engineers through an NP I cycle and provide direct, specific design feedback

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical architecture of the Bolt platform: chassis, drivetrain, battery packaging, control box, and arm-to-base interface
• Lead concept trade studies and drive decisions with software, EE, safety, and product teams
• Conduct hands-on design work: detailed design, load cases, FEA, tolerancing, DF(M) for fabrication
• Plan and run prototype builds and test programs to prove durability and safety
• Mentor mechanical engineers, conduct design reviews, and set drawing and release standards
• Collaborate with Safety and Manufacturing on certification and build strategy
