Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to advance mechanical development of a mobile robot product line from concept through production. You will design hardware, collaborate with contract manufacturers, and solve production challenges to scale reliable robotic platforms.

The role requires 5+ years in mechanical engineering, including robotics or electromechanical systems, proficiency with SolidWorks and PLM systems, and hands-on experience with jigs and tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years mechanical engineering experience, including robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience supporting contract manufacturers, including DFM reviews, ECNs, and production issue resolution.
• Hands-on experience designing jigs, fixtures, tooling, or manufacturing support equipment.
• Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, and manufacturing methods such as sheet metal, machining, injection molding, and die casting.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal teams.
• Willing to travel up to 25% (field site visits).

Responsibilities

• Own hardware for a mobile 4-wheeled robot product line from concept through end-of-life.
• Design and develop mechanical assemblies including frames, drive systems, packaging, and components.
• Create 3D models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools.
• Apply DFM/DFA to optimize for high-volume contract manufacturing and cost-efficient production.
• Interface with contract manufacturers, supporting production builds and RCCA resolution.
• Present at design reviews, issue ECNs, and update documentation in PLM/PDM systems.
• Design and implement assembly jigs, fixtures, and tooling for quality and throughput improvements.
• Support PPAP, FAI, ramp activities, and travel up to 25% to manufacturing sites.
